News: Total Theatre Awards shortlist two shows at the Pleasance

Two Pleasance shows appear on this year’s exciting shortlist for the Total Theatre Awards which recognise artists and companies leading innovative work beyond the classical canon and new writing. the accident did not take place (YESYESNONO in association with Pleasance) and Tricky Second Album (In Bed with My Brother) are both shortlisted for Total Theatre & Theatre in Mill Award for Innovation, Experimentation & Playing with Form & Total Theatre & Rose Bruford College Award for Innovation, Experimentation & Playing with Form.

Director of Pleasance, Anthony Alderson commented: “The Total Theatre Awards seek to recognise shows that are innovating and breaking boundaries. Both these companies really do epitomise these values and Pleasance are delighted to see them on the shortlist for this year’s awards.”

Presented by YESYESNONO in association with the Pleasance, the accident did not take place summons hyper-reality to recreate a fictional accident. Each recreation is more frenetic than the last, moving from ‘truth’ to ‘truth’ but which is the truth? Using an unrehearsed guest performer each day, the show highlights the deeply human need to destroy the mystery of the other, to renders ourselves transparent through both mass and social media.

YESYESNONO said: “We’re unbelievably proud and grateful to be recognised in this incredible list. Being seen by the panel – who include some of our total idols – and shortlisted by them means a lot. the accident did not take place feels like our most adventurous work yet as a company, as well our most personal, and we are so grateful to know that people have enjoyed and found something in the landscape we’ve been living in the past year.”

Tricky Second Album from In Bed with My Brother is performance anarchy which eviscerates the capitalist ethos which undermines the lofty aspirations of art. Inspired by KLF’s divisive burning of one million pounds, Tricky Second Album is a multimedia punk riot that throws the rulebook in the face of the audience and sets fire to performance etiquette.

In Bed with My Brother added: “We’re absolutely chuffed – buzzin!”
