News: Super Scary Film Club (For Kids) comes to London’s VAULT Festival

Critically acclaimed company Burn Bright Theatre will be heading underground to VAULT Festival with their brand new family show, Super Scary Film Club (For Kids). An hour of sketches, songs and silliness, this family – friendly celebration of things that go bump in the night is directed by co – founder Katherine Timms and written by Maxwell Tyler, co – writer of hit show One Duck Down (VAULT Family Show of the Year 2018).

Layla, Mikey and Noah have gathered the neighbourhood kids together for a horror movie marathon. They’ve raided their parents’ VHS tapes and stocked up on the popcorn – but can they brave the full collection, and just how scary is too scary? From a Hammer Horror themed tap dance, to a tape of The Shining that just happens to be in French, via a hilarious musical take on The Babadook , this uproariously silly show is a treat for horror fans … and their parents.

Burn Bright Theatre’s previous shows include The Reduced Shakespeare Company’s The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) and a gender – swapped, fast paced ensemble take on Frankenstein at the London Horror Festival. Their new production is a collaboration with Maxwell Tyler, who has co – created hi t family shows One Duck Down and Big Bones with Faceplant Theatre, as well as working with Les Enfants Terribles on Alice’s Adventures Underground and Pins & Needles on the touring show of The Bear.

Maxwell said: Ever since I was little I’ve loved ghost stories, monsters, and all things spooky. My fascination began somewhere between watching Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein and all the Treehouse of Horror Simpsons episodes I’d watch over and over. Not that I’m an adult who still loves all things horror, I thought “why not do a kids theatre show that celebrates all the iconic scary movies?” After all, kids love spooky stuff just as much as they love the silly stuff (and this show is all of both). This hilarious parody – a – thon of monsters, madmen, ghosts an d ghouls, will entertain the grown ups and film buffs just as much as the youngsters.

The cast and crew includes Emma Read, one of the core team from improvisation sensations Notflix , James Keningale ( Alice’s Adventures Underground and Captain Flinn with Les Enfants Terribles), with sound from Offie – nominated designer Odinn Orn Hilmarsson. The production is sponsored by Propercorn, with free treats for all attendees!

Super Scary Film Club (For Kids) runs at the VAULT Festival on Sunday 15 and 22 March at 15:00.
