Name that showtune challenge

The past few months in lockdown have been tough for everyone but although it’s been a worrying time, there have been some positives to come out of all of this (more on that in a later blog). For me, one of the positives has been the people I’ve ‘met’ since we’ve been in isolation. Over the past three months I’ve gotten to know some fellow theatre fans and bloggers through a lively WhatsApp group chat and weekly quizzes. Group member Becky is celebrating the 4th birthday of her blog, Musical Theatre Lives in Me, and to commemorate the event, she’s challenged some of us to name a song from musical theatre for every letter of our blog’s name.

So here goes…

Falling Slowly: I saw Once earlier this year and fell in love with the soundtrack straight away. It’s so beautiful and this is my favourite song.
Revenge Party: I was supposed to see Mean Girls in April (and I’m still bitter about it) but I LOVE the soundtrack. I can’t wait for it to (hopefully) transfer!
Oops I Did It Again: If ever there was a musical which summed up my teenage years, it’s &Juliet. Featuring pop classics written by the legendary Max Martin, the soundtrack has been on repeat for me ever since it was released.
Me And The Sky: If you haven’t seen Come From Away yet, go book tickets as soon as theatres are back open. A heartwarming show which will restore your faith in human beings. This is my favourite song from the show.

Popular: Wicked is one of my favourite West End shows and this is such a fun song – toss toss!
A Kind of Magic: We Will Rock You was the first musical I ever fell in love with and combined two of my loves: Theatre and Queen. AKOM is one of my favourites from the show and even better when performed live.
Getting Married Today: Having heard how good Company was, I finally got to experience the gender-switched production in 2018 and immediately loved the songs. Getting Married Today is just genius!
Ex-Wives: One of my favourite musicals of recent years, Six is a fun pop concert musical with a great soundtrack. Sadly I don’t have a D in my name for Don’t Lose Your Head, but this song is still one of my favourites from the show.

Thank You For The Music
: I couldn’t really mention musical theatre without including a song Mamma Mia! The perfect upbeat show guaranteed to put you in a good mood.
Oh What A Circus: I finally got to see Evita last year at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and it didn’t disappoint. A great show and an incredibly infectious song.

She Used To Be Mine: Waitress may not be to everyone’s taste but I really enjoyed the show, and She Used To Be Mine is one of my favourite songs from musical theatre. Just gorgeous.
The Whole Being Dead Thing: I’m still sad I didn’t get to see Beetlejuice on Broadway in April (thanks Covid) but really hope it gets a transfer soon!
A Better Haircut: Amelie is one of the last shows I saw before lockdown and it’s such a beautiful show. The soundtrack too is great and this song is so catchy and funny – it gets bonus points for managing to mention ‘bacterial vaginosis’ too!
Good Morning Baltimore: Hairspray is a feel-good musical full of energy, but it also feels even more relevant in its focus on racial issues given recent events on both sides of the pond.
Elephant Love Medley: I adored the film of Moulin Rouge and have been obsessed with the soundtrack to the musical ever since it was released. I’m still gutted I didn’t see it on Broadway but I can’t wait until it arrives in London!

Congratulations Becky. I think it definitely calls for some cake!
